The Manaslu Trek with Tsum Valley is an extraordinary off-the-beaten-path adventure that takes you through one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally rich regions. This trek offers breathtaking views of Mount Manaslu (8,163m)—the eighth highest peak in the world—along with a journey into the sacred Tsum Valley, often referred to as the “Hidden Valley of Happiness.” Unlike the more commercialized trekking routes like Everest and Annapurna, this trek provides an untouched Himalayan experience, blending stunning landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and the unique Buddhist culture of the Tsumba people.
Starting from Soti Khola, the trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through lush forests, deep gorges, and cascading waterfalls. As you ascend, the scenery changes from subtropical jungles to alpine meadows and eventually to the high-altitude Tibetan-influenced villages of Tsum Valley. This secluded valley is home to ancient monasteries such as Mu Gompa and Rachen Gompa, where trekkers can experience traditional Buddhist practices and witness the preserved culture of the region. The spiritual significance of Tsum Valley is immense, as it is believed that Guru Rinpoche meditated here, making it a sacred destination for Tibetan Buddhists.
One of the major highlights of the Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley Trek is crossing the Larkya La Pass (5,160m), which offers panoramic views of Himalchuli, Ngadi Chuli, Ganesh Himal, and the Annapurna range. The challenging yet rewarding journey takes you through diverse terrains, from rhododendron forests to icy glaciers, making it one of Nepal’s most scenic and adventurous treks. Along the way, trekkers will have the chance to interact with locals in traditional stone-built villages such as Samagaun and Samdo, where Tibetan culture and lifestyle remain well-preserved.
Since the Manaslu Region falls under a restricted area, trekkers require a special Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP) and Tsum Valley Permit, along with a registered guide. This restriction helps maintain the pristine beauty and authenticity of the region. The best time to undertake this trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is stable, and the mountain views are at their best.
With its mix of breathtaking mountain scenery, rich Tibetan culture, and untouched landscapes, the Manaslu Trek with Tsum Valley is a perfect adventure for trekkers looking for a unique, off-the-beaten-path experience in Nepal’s Himalayas.
